Substance abuse treatment can be extremely effective at helping individuals overcome addictions. However, some people have trouble accessing these programs.

In an effort to make rehab facilities more accessible to anyone who struggles with addiction, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration recently announced that it will award $14.4 million to support individuals who are seeking substance abuse treatment.

The organization has announced that three-year grants of up to $400,000 have been awarded to 11 groups across the country. Officials said that the goal of providing these grants is to foster greater cooperation between communities, employers, transportation services and treatment facilities.

“Supporting people in recovery from addiction is key to ensuring that they sustain the positive steps that begin with treatment,” said Gil Kerlikowske, national drug policy director. “These grants will help provide crucial resources to aid the journey of millions of Americans who have bravely chosen the difficult road to recovery.”

More than 23 million individuals enter rehab each year, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse. This funding could help expand that number.
