Grants Support New Jersey Addiction Facility

As a result of two grants totaling $65,500, a new medical facility scheduled to open in southern New Jersey will offer addiction services to adolescents, the Salem Sunbeam reported Sept. 6.

The grants from the Salem Health and Wellness Foundation would support treatment services offered by Daytop, a not-for-profit organization that delivers a comprehensive alcohol and drug treatment program to male and female adolescents.

The first grant of $37,500 would support the training of 25 family therapists. The second grant of $28,000 will help with the cost of treatment for Salem County adolescents with a need for Daytop services.

"The presence of Daytop in Salem County will give local families dealing with adolescent substance-abuse problems a very effective ally," said Sr. Carol Adams, CSJP, chairperson of the foundation.

The Daytop program combines self-sufficiency with positive peer interaction and a family-like atmosphere.

The Salem County Daytop facility is expected to open at the beginning of 2005.

Information about the Salem Health and Wellness Foundation and its funding interests is available at its website.
